HISTORY

It is 1929, the year of the Great Depression, when Giancarlo Maroni, the very architect behind the Vittoriale degli Italiani, has a great intuition: to build a beachfront resort in Riva del Garda, the 'City of the Sun'. This is how Spiaggia degli Olivi was born, conceived as the gateway to the Mediterranean and inaugurated by the great Italian poet Gabriele D'Annunzio in 1934

The chronicles of the time immediately described it as an indispensable project for the rebirth of Riva del Garda. Since then, this masterpiece of Italian architecture has become an important symbol of the city and a landmark for the entire Lake Garda. In the 1960s and 1970s in particular, it became a venue for evening events and an iconic location for social life and youth, popular with major national rock and jazz groups, athletes and well- known faces from show business.

A success story that lasted almost 70 years, until in 2003 the building was closed for a radical renovation: the architectural lines were respected, however the intended use changed several times.

In March 2020, under the new management of Riva del Garda Fierecongressi – the company that manages the main trade fair and congress centre in the Trentino region, with many years of experience in organising events – the relaunch project began, a challenge in line with the company's objective of identifying new spaces in which to develop a complementary offer to that of the Congress Centre and the Riva del Garda Exhibition Centre

Spiaggia Olivi has now turned the lights back on and returned to life in the beautiful setting in which it is located, regaining its original identity. The high value of the building and its return to its function as a location for events are the cornerstones on which Spiaggia Olivi has been reborn, in an indissoluble relationship with the city on the one hand and the lake on the other.
